Peru, IND - May 23, 2024- United Way of Miami County is pleased to announce the recipient winners of its 2024 scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to three high school seniors in Miami County. This year's recipients, Nolan Jones, Emma Thomas and Emily Smith, are each rewarded a $1,000 scholarship for their commitment to community service and for making a positive impact.
Nolan Jones, parents Bob and Jessica Jones, is a graduating senior from Maconaquah High School. Nolan has served his community by volunteering for Crossroad Community Church’s “Serve Together” event, after volunteering, he soon recognized his appreciation for connecting with his community. Nolan will be attending Purdue University in the fall.
Emma Thomas, parents Derek and Christina Thomas, is a graduating senior from Peru Junior Senior High School. Emma was involved in “The Fairy Godmother Project of Miami County” for four years, after volunteering, she grew an understanding and became compassionate for those who may not have had similar experiences as she did. In the fall, Emma plans to attend Indiana University School of Nursing- Bloomington.
Emily Smith, parents Cathay and Eric Smith, is a graduating senior from North Miami High School. Emily has been involved in the student Rotarian program, student council, United Way, NHS, dance team and performing arts. Through these involvements she has helped her community rake leaves for towns, put together school functions, worked concessions, and taught dance. Emily plans to attend Indiana University Bloomington in the fall.
These recipients will continue to do great things for their community. For all their dedication and hard work over the years, these recipients were chosen as the United Way scholarship winners for the year of 2024
